  1. Kerrang!
    Nov 19, 2013
The album sprawls between ferocity, relentless rhythms, and sombre moments. [19 Oct 2013, p.54]
  2. Oct 30, 2013
Though it blisters with intensity, it boasts well-written songs illustrated by canny production, played with confident recklessness and vulnerable honesty.
  3. Q Magazine
    Oct 25, 2013
Their third album reins in the sonic restlessness with impressive results, making it easily their most coherent and melodically enjoyable record to date. [Nov 2013, p.105]

He doesn't really offer sharp, pointed lyricism, but he does give the album a haze of depression capped by a few moments of catharsis.

Nothing is Real is an eleven-song effort that showcases Crystal Antlers with a tighter outfit and in turn, a tighter release.
  6. Nov 20, 2013
The band members’ talents rise to the top, making Nothing Is Real a serious mark for Crystal Antlers, if it’s not their high-water.
  7. 60
Whether the sound quality on Nothing Is Real is intentional or not, the lo-fi rattling smothers the hooks and makes the songs feel suspiciously like demos.
  8. Oct 25, 2013
Sometimes the record feels a little samey--‘Better Things’ is ironically the worst thing on there, not bringing much to the four-legged furniture--but there’s enough variety to keep the record afloat.
  9. Nov 4, 2013
There are odd, almost-redeemable moments present but, recorded as it is, the album had no chance.
