    That Oblivion resembles a blockbuster soundtrack more than an M83 album may disappoint some of Gonzalez's fans, but it means that he and Trapanese succeeded in making the film's music what it needed to be.

    Like Daft Punk’s soundtrack for Tron: Legacy before it (a film also directed by Joseph Kosinski), Oblivion is symbiotically dependent on the silver screen.

    M83 composed a great and unique sound for Oblivion which captures the feelings of the movie fittingly. Definitely one of the best soundtracks I've heard all year. Even though the music may be awesome, it is kind of repetitive- the songs bleed into another, with little distinction between each of them. The same thing has been said about Trons soundtrack (original and remake).

    The music is epic in scope and utilizes fat synths, retro in nature and maintaining a modern daft punkish appeal. The music is emotionally charged while remaining subdued and i for one enjoy the trip down memory lane it imbues me with.

    I think the main gripe comes from it working SO well with the movie that as a standalone something feels lost to the listener. My suggestion is to give it a few weeks after seeing the movie and listen to it again fresh. you will not be disappointed.

    I usually reserve my 9 and 10 star ratings for music composed as a standalone album (Not an OST) but every once and a while a soundtrack burns to the surface and leaves a deep impression. This is one of those few moments and I highly suggest giving it a listen on good headphones with your eyes closed so you can take in the entire scope of sound.
