For this item, the band bet less for the melancholic tone except for final tracks Before you were young and Sarah. An album that deserves the full attention of the followers

The immediacy of the opening track surprised me initially, suggesting a harder rocking album, which was a welcome change from their previous album. The melodic quality of the album is readily accessible and characteristically Travis, but the sonic territory is wider and edgier. From the brooding Broken Mirror to the headbanger-esque Something Anything, Travis showcases a bolder side to them that is more impressive and respectable than it is alienating. This mid-career rocker is a definite high in Travis' catalog in my view. Expand

  1. Travis have always been Quite Good, sometimes a little more, rarely less. This album heads a perceived slide into insignificance off at the pass and ensures the status quo.
  2. Apparently the band's sixth studio album is their first to be written from electric guitar since their debut Good Feeling, and this shows strongly in the end result.
  3. Where that Travis pointed a way out of Britpop, this one seeks the comfort of how guitar bands sounded before then, the bristling energy recalling early REM, the Chills and even occasionally Nirvana.
