Choosing between 6 or 7 out of 10 was a hard task. The album appears to be paradoxically as varied as repetitive. The main flaw according to me is that if you don't get into the vibe of a track after twenty seconds then you will surely not enjoy it at all until the end. I do like the overall bizarre side of the album, like if nothing was made to be logical nor consistent. Its unexpectedChoosing between 6 or 7 out of 10 was a hard task. Some phases all along the project are truly remarkable.

As much as I hate to compare DJ's each other I have to admit that 'Newman' totally has a Daft Punk energy (but that's almost the only one, I honestly don't get why everybody compare Vitalic to Daft Punk further than their common nationality). The track 'Poney Part. II' showcases what I think to be horrible 'singing' voices. If 'OK Cowboy' tries to craft some innovative patterns the major part of the tracks certainly end up being messy, constant and lurid. The first beat always remains the same as each song goes on and on and it is completed by several varied effects that doesn't sound like Vitalic was about to create something absolutely brand new.

With highlights like: "My Friend Dario, The Past, Poney Part 1, Newman and La Rock 01", Vitalic proves that he knows what he's doing. OK Cowboy is a marvelous, riveting experience.

While most electronic music is just bland and repetitive, OK Cowboy is well developed and unexpected.

I don't really get the Daft Punk comparisons people are making. This sounds nothing like Daft Punk (who I also adore). Vitalic's sound is much more visceral. I have a new favorite track everytime i listen. One of the standout house albums of last year (er, this year for those who didn't import).

Very artisticly expressed techno sound. Really something alternative in the eletronic scene. It even gets better with every listening session.

Kan't quite bring myself to give 10/10. great 80% of album, perhaps a couple of the tunes are a bit old??? but the rest is reassuringly excellent. another direction ofr French House, away from daftpunk/air,etc.

this album is damn great. the good old songs + several new wonderful ones. "no fun" and "repair machines" are the highlights, along with the already famous "la rock 01" and "poney pt 1".

Outstanding stuff. You just know he's French from the first listen. Evokes robotic bliss. You just can't stop tapping out those beats.

This guy is great. In the rap n' country tradition of Big n' Rich and Cowboy Troy, this guy is tops! Big ups to French hillbilly OK Cowboy. The revolution starts here.

This is one helluva record. Fantastic from start to finish. The first track remains my single favorite song of the year for some bizarre, unexplainable reason. Anyhow, it's the second best album of the year so far, behind the already-classic Arular.

  1. Beyond the grooves etched in this record, what is most exciting is the ease with which Arbez brushes aside the canon of 90s giants.

This is an album that leaves you in absolutely no doubt that, at the very least, Pascal Arbez-Nicolas is the best thing to come out of France since Daft Punk. [30 Apr 2005, p.63]
  3. A record that's in the same league as Homework or Discovery.
