The Norwegian band I Was A King wreaks gleeful pop havoc on their third album. [Feb 2011, p.73]

There is a solid amount of quirkiness to realize and I Was A King surely have a knack for turning out strong songs but maybe next time a 'less equals more' approach would be more fitting.

Old Friends' greatest strength-being good at what it does, without the sweat-is also its greatest weakness. Taking 18 months between albums of dreamy pop (not dreampop) doesn't imply a lack of ambition, but there also won't be a designated place for I Was a King in your "feelgood indie rock" playlist, especially when this album magnifies the sleepy, repetitive qualities of the band's last effort.

The lyrics mostly follow white-kid reminiscences, and it's best just to slot them in with all the rest of early-90s-mining that goes on on Old Friends, because they're forgettable.
