This is as good as it gets right now; it'll be the country album to beat in 2007.
-
While One Of The Boys isn't a good country album by any stretch, it also isn't offensive or reductive in any of the ways that made her two prior albums such problems.
-
Her songs and the ways in which she works them frequently lack distinction, and though an artist whose appeal is rough edges doesn't need to be sophisticated to be effective, neither should she be quite so ordinary.
-
UncutIf it's a little predictable, it's still easy on the ears. [Jul 2007, p.127]
-
BlenderIt's better written than her previous CDs... But this new old style is far less suited to her talents. [Jun 2007, p.110]
-
None of this feels revelatory, but sometimes it sounds pretty fine.
-
Surprisingly pensive.
-
Entertainment WeeklyNot as perfect as her 2004 debut, but a step up from its follow-up. [18 May 2007, p.66]
-
Now this is more like it.
-
BillboardAs expected, there's plenty of ass-kicking country on Wilson's third album, but it's her softer side that sets it apart. [19 May 2007]
-
The New York TimesWith “One of the Boys,” her third album, Ms. Wilson rediscovers her greatest asset: her extraordinary voice. [14 May 2007]
-
A pleasant-enough escapist soundtrack for the summer.
-
Rather than moving boldly forward, she ends up holding her ground.
