haunting if a little uneven in places, a wonderful album none the less, and "Even Tho" is a standout track that deserves a wider audience

Joseph Arthur brings out the hidden aspects of the human condition in this masterpiece. Even the few moments of lyrical misteps spoken about by criticts accent the frail, naked emotion throughout the album. This is a must have for any who appreciate the art and humanity of music. There is no equal to "Our Shadows Will Remain," save Arthur's 2000 release, "Come to Where I'm From."

Possibly the most talented artist of our generation. Gorgeously prolific in many mediums, (paint, words, music), his shimmering, brooding soundscapes evoke a "Starry Night" for the ears.

I only listen to one song on this CD. It's called "Even Tho" and it is very very very good. The only problem with the whole CD is that it sounds as if it was made anywhere between 1985 and 1995. That is problematic.

I asked a friend for any new good underground rock and roll. He had me listen to "Can't Exist" and I liked it. Bought the album and was disappointed. I hate weepie indie rock. Boo!

I ordered this CD a month ago, and I finally got it two days ago. Some critics have called him self-absorbed, but I like my artists a little angsty. Looking inward is important, and Joseph Arthur captures things like no one else. It was worth the wait.

  1. Here, as on previous albums, Arthur demonstrates his gift for emotionally direct songwriting, but the specifics often escape his attention.

Arthur's delicious art is a potent, concentrated thing. [Oct 2004, p.96]
  3. Sturdier production and straightforward songwriting make a strong backbone for someone once lauded for his mysticism.
