Out of the Black works either on the dancefloor or at the workstation, offering beat nuts from the Front 242 generation to the Deadmau5 kids their deep, dark, and delicious fix.

Not a record to play through seamlessly but one to skip and cherry pick, Out of the Black is about selecting the monsters, and cranking them out at the volume they deserve.

The absence of any high-profile pop vocal collaborations--save for Snoop Dogg on 'I'll House You', which playfully (and successfully) pays tribute to house music circa Dance Energy--and greater focus on the French house and techno that formed him, present Boys Noize at his most venerably accomplished.

Fans of previous Boys Noize release Oi Oi Oi will be pleased to find the elements that made that record so vital are still present.

[Ridha's] third studio album is a reliable journey into thrashing, powerful and industrial electro and techno.

There is still a huge amount of enjoyment to gain from Boys Noize and that overrides some of the consistency issues.

Most of the tracks sound pretty familiar, though, with just enough new tricks to avoid feeling like a complete rerun.

Boys Noize forged a path through the same noisy colours [as Justice and Digitalism] without ever acquiring the cultural baggage. [Nov 2012, p.89]

'Out Of The Black' represents that failure [to push their sound forward].
