    The New York quintets fourth album is more focused and thoughtful than their previous, more intense releases. The release is highly reminiscent of Nick Caveâ

    . This isn't an album you listen to in a conscious sense: it's an album you put on and switch off, allowing it to carry you on a journey through the wilderness. It's O'Death's most accomplished work to date, and a fine piece of work at that.

    Outside is a celebration of his recovery--a great album on its own terms, and truly remarkable given how close it presumably came to never being made.

    By mixing in a few lighter moments amongst all the dark the band do give the impression that they are on the way to becoming something quite special, but they still need to consider letting in a little more colour and variety into their songs before they can achieve this potential.
