  1. He's backed by the best production he's had since his Dr. Dre-helmed debut.
  2. Though Snoop Dogg never slipped from the charts, Paid Tha Cost to Be Da Bo$$ smacks of a comeback, and it's a great one.
  3. Of course, as far as production goes, it would be nearly impossible to top Doggystyle. However, Paid the Cost tries as hard as it can.
  4. Snoop sounds as cool as ever with his velvety voice and nodding head keeping the laid-back party going.
  5. 80
Not since his debut has the Doggfather been any higher. [#12, p.155]
  6. What makes 'Paid Tha Cost...' such an unexpected joy is the way in which Snoop's comic persona offers all involved an opportunity to loosen up and have some fun.

    Snoop unleashed. [Feb 2003, p.100]
  8. One of his best-balanced albums in years.
  9. 70
The album's most compelling moments recall the Doggfather's early days. [Jan 2003, p.125]
  10. A strong (if characteristically overlong) album.
  11. 60
He treads a line between loving monogamy and club bangers, emphasising accessibility throughout. [Jan 2003, p.128]
  12. At once fly, fierce and skilled, he's a purebred off the leash.
  13. A mess. [Feb 2003, p.107]

This is really funky. I love the "chill-songs" like Ballin' and Boss Playa, and the whole album is really solid, but it isn't as good as "tha last meal", which is classical. Snoop is the man. Full Review »

very strong beats and creates affective G-FUNK atmosphere on the surface a brilliant album with no flaws only problem is the lack of lyrical heroism with the dogg resorting to his usual 70's- pimp stylishnes Full Review »
