Parachutes, Coldplay’s debut album, is a masterpiece of alternative rock music. There are several great songs, and i could never not mention the iconic “Yellow”, a sentimental and beautiful song. This record is very cohesive and it follows an acoustic vibe, great to play in rainy or moody days.

'Sparks' may be the saddest song on the album, with amazing sounding acoustic and tear jerking vocals. 'Parachutes' is a nice little song near the end of the album, once again nothing special, but it sounds great. 'High Speed' and 'We Never Change' are both great tracks that lead to a great last song of a great album, and that song would be 'Everything's Not Lost'. My Favourite Tracks on this album would have too be Shiver, Sparks, and Trouble. Expand

I am sad to say that I am a little disappointed in Parachutes, since Coldplay is one of my favorite bands. My problem with it is that most of the songs sound exactly the same. Chris Martin is extremely talented, but it would be nice if there were a little variety instead of only acoustic songs. Shiver and Yellow were really nice, because they were more rock-n-roll-ish than the aforementioned other songs, and they were my favorites coming into listening Parachutes as well. I actually also really liked Trouble and Everything’s Not Lost because of their great lyrics. While Parachutes was kind of disappointing, I really did enjoy this album, even though it was repetitive, and I’m looking forward to listening to Coldplay’s other work. Highlights: Shiver, Yellow, and Trouble.

This debut album is light, whimsical, and reflective. Great on a rainy summer afternoon or evening. Free of later theatrics and bombast, Parachutes succeeds by being simple and intimate. Shiver is a highlight and as loud as this album gets. It never overstays it’s welcome either. One of Coldplay’s stronger outings

A pleasant, beautiful, cohesive, yet more-or-less forgettable album. While Parachutes is a very pleasant album to listen to, and the lyrics are simple yet well-written, it adds brings nothing new to the table, which is why some listeners may find this album forgettable.

This album is a perfect example for the whole being greater than the sum of it’s parts. Each track compliments the one before it as they compile together to create a beautiful ode to missed opportunity and lost love. Martin’s vocals haunting while perfectly blending with the rest of the quartet. This album is perfect.

The best thing about this album is it shows how good Coldplay are without all the studio trickery and smoke and mirrors they have become known for. Their later albums have so much production that the songs often get lost and don't get the credit they deserve, whereas on "Parachutes" less is more definitely rings true. A beauty. Collapse

Up to the title track this album is a masterpiece but it wanes a little towards the end though the final track is redemption enough. Of course we now know this was just the start and they've only got better with each subsequent record but I will always come back to their debut and enjoy it just as much each time and more likely even more so. The nostalgia value is priceless.

"Yellow", the lead single from the album is also one of my favorites. Today, "Yellow" has proved to be Coldplay's "breakout" track and is still spinning on AC stations. "Trouble" is a beautiful pop-rock ballad, the song is perfect when you are feeling depressed or sad, but at the same time, it is an beautiful track. "High Speed" to me, is another track that shows Chris Martin's vocal ability. The song gives me an cool vibe. "We Never Change" is an boring track to me, however lyrically the song is an a-ok. "Everything's Not Lost" is an greatly produced song that is beautifully written and sung. The stand-out tracks of the album include "Don't Panic", "Shiver", "Yellow", "Trouble", "High Speed", and "Everything's Not Lost". I love the chilling quaintness of the entire thing. The guitar chords are great, especially on Spies, which reminds me of James Bond. It's great that there are only a few real climaxes, and the rest builds up slowly to those. It's a pretty genius record. Favorite track: Spies

A fantastic debut album by well-known brit rock band Coldplay. Yes, it sounds a little like the first era Radiohead (as they seem to prepher to do electronics I don't see anything wrong about it) but it also has some classic Coldplay songs like Trouble or Yellow. Another very good song is Sparks. A few others aren't that good but, as a whole, the album is great.

An album of dreamy lightweight rock that should fail due to its inconsequence, but which somehow succeeds in lifting the spirits and sending the listener into a world of quiet calm. 1. Although "Parachutes" brings nothing new to the table, Coldplay seems talented enough to transcend this early identity crisis.
  2. Combining bits of distorted guitar riffs and swishing percussion, Parachutes is a delightful introduction and also quickly indicates the reason why this album earned Coldplay a Mercury Music Prize nomination in fall 2000.
  3. Their debut album's secret arsenal comprises frontman Chris Martin's voice - prematurely aged for someone in their early twenties - and some supple, persuasive melodies. That and a great big side order of melancholy.
