Like her LP, ANOHNI's PARADISE is a poignant, smouldering reflection of society's current, crucial conversations.

Paradise may be titled ironically, but it refuses to wallow in cynicism, ending with concern about the state of the world, but hoping that unity will guide us through difficult times.

The music is melancholic, urgent, enveloping. After more than a decade, her tightly controlled croon has lost none of its flinching effect to communicate shock and smoldering rage. Aside from sparking urgency and indignation, it evokes feelings the other side could use: humility, and shame.

Paradise challenges its listeners to emotionally engage with their surroundings in hopes that they develop a conscious understanding that there are consequences to our daily conveniences.

Overall, Paradise is a safe bridge from HOPELESSNESS, where the singer is able to express herself in another wide collection of musical manifestos.

That contrast of vicious agit-prop and palatable pop [on ["Jesus Will Kill You"] isn’t quite as pronounced on the other songs, which take on a more nuanced, often more personal feel.

Paradise suggests it may be a very long time before Anohni gives us another album like I Am a Bird Now (if she ever does), but the strength and vision of this EP offers the promise that she may soon offer us something similarly powerful and moving in her new musical frameworks.

Instead, it sounds like she found something to **** about, jammed a bunch of words into a verse and had some producers come in and put kooky electronics and static in it to make something completely void of accessible comprehension. She may have a lot to say, but I didn't feel anything towards the end except a feeling that I just don't like her style, her voice or her songwriting and that whatever she was trying to say got lost in this mess.
