With all due respect The reviewer for Slant Magazine might want to want to give this album a second listen after he's pulled his head out of his ass.

These guys are ambitious. Three friends from high-school and college started up the folk-prog/post-classic-rock Plants and Animals (PA) up on Canada

This is a decent album spanning a mix of genres. You'll find rock, folk, country, and blues with a splash of psychedelia, all making this a worthwhile debut Indie album. The first half seems to "stick" better than the second which tends to blend/get-lost more into the background. Overall, it's not too bad and I'm glad I purchased it.

  1. Parc Avenue often strays too far into excess and departure for departure’s sake to enjoy the brand of a songwriter’s tour-de-force.... But as a fully realized and lovingly sculpted aesthetic, there may be few stronger full-length debuts waiting in this year’s wings.
  2. Plants and Animals may not be the first band to put Montreal on the musical map, but, with this album's there's-no-place-like-home vibe, they are certainly the first to celebrate it so warmly
  3. It is their failure to do little beyond noodle energetically and evoke the work of others that dooms Parc Avenue to mediocrity.
