  • Summary: The quintet from Jacksonville, Florida, releases its debut album produced by Bernard Butler.
Score distribution:
  1. Positive: 25 out of 33
  2. Negative: 2 out of 33
  1. Listen to your body tonight. They made themselves up, and they're strictly for real.
  2. 60
There's some interesting things going on here.... Sadly, Bernard Butler's production often feels thin and tinny, which isn't just sad, but avoidable, too. [Aug 2008, p.92]
  3. This is nothing even remotely new, but very rarely does it come off so obnoxiously, indelibly built to not be taken seriously when that's the very action that could save these assholes from their own doom.

The Blacks Kids debut full length is undoubtedly a departure from their darker versions of the music presented in the free wizard e.p. ,as far as production. You have to give it a second listen!!! This is an awesome album that only suffers from preconcocted notions of what you THOUGHT they were gonna do. Once you can let this album be judged on its own merit, watch out haters, this could easily be the first round knock out punch album of the year, with the black kids working their magic in an astounding 38 minutes. Wow!!! Time flies when your having fun. Expand

Uh, no. This band was overhyped from the get go and, although they may have shown a little promise on their free ep, the dazzling production ect. gets them nowhere. I'm not sure why the critics scored it so high, especially considering the apologetic tone in their reviews. This album is utterly disposable, though it's good for maybe two spins. Expand

Catchy, but horribly derivative. One part The Cure, one part The Go! Team, and very little variation anywhere.
