Stuff this simple can turn into art that's fantastic or a fantastic disaster. Coachwhips walk the line masterfully. [Feb 2005, p.91]
  2. What makes Coachwhips bigger than the rock n'roll n'amphetamines and extreme petting that inevitably gets etched on them is sheer, dirty, bone-corroding, untamed noise.
  3. It's hard to believe at first listen, but they've got nuance.
  4. No less of a passion-scratched, damp-sheet-scrumple of an affair than its predecessors.

For the most part still playing it breakneck and fuzz-covered, their trademark garage-scuzz-meets-hardcore blitzkreig is if anything more rough-riffed and faster. [Mar 2005, p.101]
  6. Another album to blow up the cemetery to.

Frontman John Dwyer still sounds like he's singing through a kazoo, the drummer is still obviously banging away on cardboard boxes and keyboardist Val-Tronic plays like all her fingers are broken. [5 Mar 2005, p.50]
  8. While not a live album at all, PB & J does indeed live with its own throbbing, messy scariness that demands that the volume be turned all the way up to 11, threatening to eat your brain if you dare leave it lower.
  9. Either you’ll go nuts for this or run screaming from it.
  10. A blur of primal guitar stomp wrapped in a menacing swirl of vintage organs and distorted vocals.

Although memorable hooks are few and far between... there's no denying the album's ferocity. [Mar 2005, p.132]
  12. Entertainment Weekly

The band's brand of anti-melody, two-chord thrash... is starting to feel punishingly stale. [28 Jan 2005, p.84]
  13. Unlike previous recordings like 2003's Get Yer Body Next ta Mine, Coachwhips covet a reliable, freight train approach and derail.
  14. The band continuously recycles itself into a feeble mass.
  15. Magnet

Doesn't offer much in the way of anything appealing. [#67, p.90]

Seven's about right for the coachwhips. They do the raw garage rock better than anyone I know, and it's a blast listening to an Seven's about right for the coachwhips. They do the raw garage rock better than anyone I know, and it's a blast listening to an album this full of intensity and grit. But on the flip side, their songs sound pretty similar. They throw blues into the mix, which I usually don't like, but they pull it off a lot better than other bands I know who do this, and the rhythm section will pulverize you. So, a 9 or 10 for rocking me like no other, but if you want amazing and diverse song writing, I can see why some of the reviewers are pissed. Full Review »
