  • Summary: The Grammy-winning singer returns with her latest album featuring ballads and bossa nova.
Score distribution:
  1. Positive: 9 out of 12
  2. Negative: 0 out of 12
  1. Ogerman charts emphasize minor keys, creating a moody emotional palette for the album. And, as usual, Krall's honeyed voice and carefully chiseled playing are as spare and perfect on every cut as her core quartet's accompaniment.
  2. Standards given a sensual bossa makeover
  3. 80
The result is fabulous, Ogerman framing Krall's sultry, languorous delivery with arrangements that are opulent yet don't swamp her voice. [Jul 2009, p.93]
  4. 60
A so-so collection of lushly orchestrated Brazilian bossa novas and ballads that unite Mrs. Costello with Frank Sinatra's arranger claus Ogerman. [Apr 2009, p.82]

Individually the songs are beautiful but together they induce sleep. Lacks the "snap" of some of the arrangements on "Look of Love."

Not a best effort, Ms. Krall tries to break her formidable mold, and delivers a very nice smooth, and rather boring album. I use it as background music. During dinner. When no one is particularly listening. There is virtually no contrast here, and her voice is too soft and breathyt. I think it's supposed to be romantic, but it comes across as amateurish. She can do so much better than this. Also, the full orchestra used to back her up is so far in the background that it might as well not be there. I guess someone wanted a truly safe album. Only for die hard Krall fans. Or people who don't like jazz much. And in hotel lobbies. Rest homes. Funeral home restrooms. Expand

I love Bossa Nova and also I enjoyed Diana Krall's last album very much. But the combination just doesn' t work out. Diana Krall39;s voice seems out of place, out of tune. The orchestra sounds spiritless and drowsy instead of laid back. The interpretations are lukewarm and uninspired. What a disappointment. Expand
