The 10 tracks from Rabbits on the Run fall into two categories: songs solidly within her patented brand of Enya-leaning pop.

Rabbits on the Run is a deeply satisfying 37-minute romp that will make you remember why you really liked Vanessa Carlton once upon a time.

Rabbits on the Run isn't quite Carlton's Extraordinary Machine, but like Harmonium, it signals that she just might be capable of such a magnum opus.

She clearly wanted to craft a grand-scale melodic-pop opus, but she hasn't delivered stories and emotions commensurate with the panoramic production work.

Carlton's wheels are finally spinning forward, but they don't gain much traction.

This is music made with no audience in mind: it is strikingly personal, to the extent that it suggests that Carlton needs to get this soul-searching out of her system in order to move forward.

Like a whole new artist. Sets her apart from other artists. An album that flows from start to finish. Would have liked more singles to come off this so it could elevate her back into mainstream, as this album truly deserves to be heard by those who appreciate an album you can listen to from start to end. Sound production and lyrical content are very impressive. Having said all that to then lead with Carousel as the lead single, which is very much more of the same of previous album material, doesn't really do this album justice. I think that is the weakest track on here. Expand

This is myThis album is the one to which I turn when I need a mental boost because of the constant reminder of the circular nature of life. This is my second favorite album by Vanessa after her newest release of "Liberman."

"Carousel" introduces the theme of the circular nature of life that there are ends and beginnings. Qw must also always remember that time marches on with or without us.

"I Don't Want To Be A Bride" is about love and not wanting to marry, but still spending life together.

"London" is about waiting around for something, but it never shows up. It's about the pain connected to a loved one being silent, and wishing that the time could be returned, but in the end, more waiting, less answers.

"Fairweather Friends" teaches us that we sometimes need "magical thinking" to get by when something happens. How do we process and get through the tough times?

"Hear The Bells" is about hearing something and about hearing nothing. We seek answers, but we might only hear the sound of what might lead us to that answer. This song is connected to "London" in my book.

"Dear California" is about leaving and freedom about love.

"Tall Tales for Spring" is about the craziness of the heart, religion, science, dream, and searching for freedom, which can be connected to "Dear California."

"Get Good" is about finding your way to the full circle to become good and whole again as announced in "Carousel." It's also about freedom.

"Matching Line" is about wanting to let go, to let the tides of life take you some place, and solitude.

"In The End" is about death and the circular nature of life. "In the end, begin again." is a message for life. When one door closes, another one opens.

Her albums seemed overdone to me. Good songs tho. I bought this cause i read an amazing review and i'm also a big my morning jacket fan. (the drummer from that band played on this.) It seems she's finally made the record she wanted to which is different frm everything else she;s done before. Evolved a ton. Never thought i'd say this but maybe one of the best albums of the year. It's very dreamy and sort of meloncholy in a beautiful way. Lyrics are a whole other level. I LOVE I don't want to be a bride. There's a children's choir throughout. Expand

I mean its almost like when you tell secrets to your best friend or someone you can trust, but with beautiful music & lyrics which of course makes the moment so special and unforgettable. So I think this is really what Vanessa meant when she said she wasn't going to do any more albums. The reason why this album cant be reviewed with numbers its because it is way to special. As a music producer I feel proud to say she is one of the few artists i have been following since she started. Unexpectedly, through the years i was waiting for something beautiful to come, now its here. Collapse

In my honestThis is not an album packed with potential hits, certainly, but definitely contains the finest tracks of Carlton's career. In my honest opinion, it's her best album. Harmonium and Heroes & Thieves got me a little bit mixed up and Be Not Nobody wasn't also good in its all. Rabbits On The Run, on the other side, sounds REALLY mature and sincere. Lyrically, it's absolutely stunning. She might not have another "A thousand miles" again but she finally made a pretty decent album. Expand
