Radiant Door is exactly as its title suggests--the brighter side of one of America's best psych-pop bands.

Their music is an exercise in reductionism: how little does a tune need to be tune? Yet, somehow these non-tunes niggle away till they lodge firmly in the memory tissue. [Jan. 2012, p.66]

The five songs that Radiant Door is comprised of shows the band's pensive, if occasionally exploratory side.

Radiant Door may not be an essential purchase, but it's both a nice reminder of why Crystal Stilts are so good and a nice placeholder for their next album.
  5. That two of the five songs are covers isn't a bad thing, but it does give the impression that this record's a bit of a throwaway: there are some interesting directions pointed out by the denser arrangements, but we'll have to wait to see how they'll realise them more fully.

There's still plenty of glamor and atmosphere in the Crystal Stilts' aura, but with this EP a significantly clearer sense of structure and purpose.

Just as In Love With Oblivion helped them gain a better perspective on what their strengths are, the Radiant Door EP is a fitting in-between to hold listeners over until they reveal what's in store for album three.

If you like Crystal Stilts previous output, you'll enjoy the Radiant Door EP, a pleasant excursion through their comfort zone.
