Radioactive [is] simultaneously the most and least mainstream friendly album of the year. It's a seeming contradiction that only someone who was supremely confident in their identity as an artist could pull off.

The album is a standout effort that introduces the full-range of his talents as an MC with crafty songwriting abilities and deft ear for a sonic palette.

Yelawolf's got personality to spare as long as it's on his own terms. Which is half the time. The rest gets by on unceasing technical skill.

The record's too long by a third, but Yela's smartmouthed, serpentine delivery (and it's hard not to make Eminem comparisons when Shady executive-produced the record) keeps the thing screwed together.

It seems a huge effort being expended to achieve so little.

Hick-hop juggernaut Yelawolf may strike some as Alabama's answer to Eminem... but the boozy, stone-faced rhymes on his debut leave little room for laughs.

The end result is an album during which the main protagonist seems unaware of what's going on, playing second fiddle to the ruminations of backseat A&Rs and misguided grasps at populism.

Every track has Yelawolf's signature style all over it, even the more 'commercial' angled tracks. Good to see that the label was willing to take risks and let him do his thing (eg Gangsta Boo & Eminem featuring together rather than something predictable for Em's contribution). Love the skit leading into Good Girl, an honest disclaimer on Yela's reluctance to include a song for chicks. I actually like the song (I am a chick though!)

The only thing letting the album down is some of the hooks (I don't love the Made in the USA hook for example). Yela should do more of his own hooks, he has the voice for it. Stand out tracks for me: Animal- love the grimy beats, the Diplo/Borgore production is awesome, combined with sick verses and a quality hook; Let's Roll - perfect radio crossover material that's still very Yelawolf; The Last Song- honest, to the point, perfect outro for the album.

The dirty south flavour runs through the whole album, his roots obviously run deep. Alll his verses are right on point, awesome album - cant wait for the next one. But first an Australian tour please!

Since then, I do not think he has disappointed-which is probably why Shady Records (read: Eminem) picked him up. From 'Bama I like his style (I went to U of A so a bit of prejudice here) and sound. Nice sounding production and a tight flow to go with the beats. However I do not think it is a better CD than Trunk Music I did like "Hard white" and "Throw it up." Get this one. Expand

Alabama born, white trash rapper Yelawolf took me completely off guard. The best aspect of this album is the originality and flavor that this new rapper brings, His flow is up with the best, and lyrics land him in the acid tongue lounge with rappers such as 50 cent, Eminem and Busta Rhymes. There are several songs where the beats are fantastic but as the rest of the album goes they are pretty average. The one downside to this album is that there are several songs that simply don't sound like something he would make due to the subject matter and also the lack of "emotion" he puts into the songs. Is this album classic? of course not! But there are songs on this album that are classic. "Growin up in the Gutter", "Everything I Love the Most" and "Hard White" its very very good and very very different. If u want to hear something like nothing you have heard before. give this one a listen. Expand

Cd has only one good song (Up In The Club) and the rest is all musical murder. Let's Roll oughta be a Kid Rock song as I'm surprised Yelawolf would want to take ownership of that gem. It's a step in the wrong direction especially since Trunk Muzik was his best work, and it wasn't even a full release. It's really a shame it came down to this because I feel like it only gets worse from here. Expand
