  1. Not that Rebel, Sweetheart offers anything all that different from previous Wallflowers albums -- they just do what they do better than they have before.

Accomplished but seldom inspired. [Aug 2005, p.106]
  3. Rebel, Sweetheart is ample testament that the Wallflowers know the roots of rock, and they're not necessarily interested in tampering with a good formula -- popularity be damned
  4. Dylan sings these adult tales of disillusionment and perseverance with the gritty timbre of a young Warren Zevon.

A slickly produced, radio-friendly collection of almost love songs with downbeat lyrics and upbeat guitar riffs. [27 May 2005, p.136]

Dylan's images are sharper than ever and his vision more focused. [22 May 2005]
  7. Merely highlights all the weak spots, like the lifeless voice, generic MOR melodies and the highly noticeable lack of Jakob being Bob.
  8. An immaculately crafted, every-note-in-place recording that is as confidently executed as it is formulaically inoffensive.

Dylan has come so far since 96's "Bringing Down The Horse." No BS here, and no filler. Every single song on this album spoke to me, and that almost never happens for me in these days of stretched out content and rush recording. Then again, Dylan has proven that he's not as interested in celebrity as he is in becoming a good songwriter. He's getting there! Full Review »
