  1. Return To Cookie Mountain is one for the ages.
  2. Maybe that's why this album has such an incredible pull: It doesn't make an atmosphere so much as a space to spend time in, and Adebimpe doesn't become a narrator so much as a witness.
  3. Return to Cookie Mountain makes Desperate Youth, Bloodthirsty Babes look almost silly by comparison.
  4. The music beneath Cookie Mountain is an earthquake of nearly generation-defining proportions.

A triumph of psychedelic melody, drone and eerie groove. [Jul 2006, p.104]
  6. Take the time to squeeze inside, and you'll discover a startling, significant, endlessly inspiring album.
  7. As music for airports, the album hums along like a tension-age sedative, but if it was meant to be a grand artistic statement by an acclaimed band with a distinctive vision, it's pretty much static.

Great music isn't always easy to digest. This is an 11-course meal of gristle on which I happily dine.

Fantastic album, the best of 2006 by some distance. Incorporating various styles to create a truly unique sound. Visionary!!

There are anthems here dying to get out, and TV on the Radio forces you to put them together for yourself. It's D.I.Y. rock for the listener, and it's pulled off perfectly. Hands down, the best album of 2006, and the best I've heard in a long time. Oh, and do yourself a favor, go see them live...incredible. Expand

Like Sigur Ros, they have a style and sound that is completely unique from any other act in the musical universe, and because of this they can be off-putting to most listeners. However, Return to Cookie Mountain pays back generous dividends to the faithful. The sound is both complex and intellectual, but what makes the album a true gem is the blood-red beating heart behind each song. Tracks like "Playhouses" and "Wash the Day Away" engender a swelling of adrenaline found in very few of today's indie acts. TVOTR's melodies are less likely to get stuck in your head than your gut. I hate when I fall in love with bands after they have only 1 album, a few songs and are underrated in the music community (how I felt after I hate when I fall in love with bands after they have only 1 album, a few songs and are underrated in the music community (how I felt after Young Liars). They had a new sound with Young Liars, but have yet to take a step further with it. With that said, this is a good album, and whether or not you're a fan, you'll enjoy it. Although, like most who've been on board since the beginning, we still want and expect more. Expand

Completely UNFRESH. Black people making music that black people aren't famous for making... oh my that's so novel. Let's make Completely UNFRESH. Black people making music that black people aren't famous for making... oh my that's so novel. Let's make it the cover story of every magazine in the country. OK but the music not there. Every musical idea in this band is completely stale. 10 years late. And the lyrics are cringe-inducing. Collapse
