While Revival isn’t the defibrillator that Eminem needed to revive his dominance, the album has enough highlights to maintain decent replay value and enough lyrical miracles to keep mindful rap from totally flat lining. His pen game hasn't lost even half of a step, and he still possesses the neurotic edge that's always made him such a driving force in hip-hop.

At least a third of the tracks are songs I could do without. The other two-thirds show that whether you love or hate the modern day Marshall Mathers, he's still as relevant as he ever was.

While the long tracklist and equally protracted verses make for an exhausting listen, there are rewards for those that endure.

Eminem has never sounded more like a man out of time. [Mar 2018, p.107]

Revival isn’t even interesting enough to warrant all of the critical beatdowns it’s taken in its short time in the world. Instead, it’s boring and predictable, which are greater threats to the Eminem legacy than anything else.

Revival is the most pleasureless record he’s ever made, so stymied by his worst tendencies that like many other inept apologies from 2017 it only points out how much further he has to go rather than how far he’s come.

I may be biased because I'm a huge EMINEM fan, but Revival has fire: Walk on Water, River, Arose, Like Home and Framed are a few of the best songs on the album. Eminem delves into political rap, horrorcore and looks into his regrets and struggles of his past in songs like Arose (Great song). This album is awesome and I recommend Revival to anyone who is a fan of rap that you can hear the words to or is a fan of rap that has taste (unlike most of rap these days i.e. **** like mumble rap) or to anyone who is looking for some good music. The album is considered a masterpiece to anyone who listens to Eminem for a long time and has good knowledge of the problems which he talks about in his songs. 90% of the album is about him and his personal life and he was so emotional at sometimes it can almost make you cry. Speaking of kids these days who listen to rap and hip-hop only because of the cool beat and they know nothing and understand **** you can say the album is trash, you can say Eminem is washed up, say whatever you want because Eminem’s songs aren’t for people with dicks in their heads.

    and like what he said
"I wanna just say thanks 'cause your hate is what gave me the strength, So let 'em Bics raise 'cause I came with 5'9" but I feel like I'm 6'8″!"

He has matured in both vision and flow, resulting in a "beautiful mess" of some sorts. The lows are bad, including the abysmal Pink collab and horribly sampled "Framed", but "River" is bound for chart glory and the album closes with enough strength to merit a positive score. Expand

I really want to love this album, I can't. I'm torn because I would love to see Eminem's triumphant return.
Lyrically and technically, he'll always be one of the greatest of all time and glimpses of his genius are certainly visible at times. Unfortunately, many of the songs are so poorly produced, sampled and dialed in that it really kills the overall flow of the album. One would wish Rick Rubin to sit back and let Dr. Dre take control.
What I do appreciate about this effort is Eminem's matured outlook and perspectives. We can't expect him to make the music he made as a young man now that he's in his mid-40s. I just wish that his more powerful and important messages (Trump, racism etc) were met with a better sound and not some pop garbage hook out of the can.
Eminem can do better, I strongly believe that he just needs a different kind of team behind his productions. I sure hope we get a chance to find out... Though, that may take another three to four years.

Eminem hugely disappoints with his new release, but what else was anticipated? Firstly, with 2 leading singles, "Untouchable" and "Walk OnEminem hugely disappoints with his new release, but what else was anticipated? Firstly, with 2 leading singles, "Untouchable" and "Walk On Water" that have Eminem trying to be conscious and political but coming of as corny and way too pop-y. Secondly, seeing the tracklist and Eminem's features was worrying, to say the least. We have artists like Ed Sheeran and Pink coming on a supposedly conscious hip hop album. Then there's Eminem's obsession with female singers singing his hooks, a "gimmick" he hasn't given up on in years. Then we have this album's production. Honestly, Eminem should have went with Dr Dre like the old days, Rubin's production style is kind of dated and doesn't work with the mindset that Eminem had coming into this album. With a few actually good tracks here and there and some vintage Eminem lyrics, that actually prevent me from giving this album a lower score. Expand

Calling this an Eminem album would be an insult. As a long time fan and listener it just sounds like Marshall needs to retire.
