    While Revival isn’t the defibrillator that Eminem needed to revive his dominance, the album has enough highlights to maintain decent replay value and enough lyrical miracles to keep mindful rap from totally flat lining. His pen game hasn't lost even half of a step, and he still possesses the neurotic edge that's always made him such a driving force in hip-hop.

    At least a third of the tracks are songs I could do without. The other two-thirds show that whether you love or hate the modern day Marshall Mathers, he's still as relevant as he ever was.

    Revival isn’t even interesting enough to warrant all of the critical beatdowns it’s taken in its short time in the world. Instead, it’s boring and predictable, which are greater threats to the Eminem legacy than anything else.

    Revival is the most pleasureless record he’s ever made, so stymied by his worst tendencies that like many other inept apologies from 2017 it only points out how much further he has to go rather than how far he’s come.

I honestly hate this album but it's not trash. It's better than a lot of 2017 releases (not in the best album conversation tho). However, Walk on water, Believe, Chloraseptic, River, Bad Husband, Framed, and, most notably, Castle and Arose have all made me overlook all of the nonesense this album holds within. To be fair to the man, he did say it before the album was even released, " I've tried to put a little something in there for everybody". The problem with that as obvious, as no one walk out of this album without at least liking 3-4 tracks, yet no one really walked out satisfied with the entirety of the album. That is of course, no one but myself. I loved this album.… Expand

Also, some great features by Pink, Skylar Grey, Kehlani, Alicia Keys, Ed Sheeran, Phresher, Beyonce, and X Ambassadors.     Lyrically and technically, he'll always be one of the greatest of all time and glimpses of his genius are certainly visible at times. Unfortunately, many of the songs are so poorly produced, sampled and dialed in that it really kills the overall flow of the album. One would wish Rick Rubin to sit back and let Dr. Dre take control.
    What I do appreciate about this effort is Eminem's matured outlook and perspectives. We can't expect him to make the music he made as a young man now that he's in his mid-40s. I just wish that his more powerful and important messages (Trump, racism etc) were met with a better sound and not some pop garbage hook out of the can.
    Eminem can do better, I strongly believe that he just needs a different kind of team behind his productions. I sure hope we get a chance to find out... Though, that may take another three to four years.
