billrOct 4, 20051Very boring all around. After making 4 superb albums, they've fallen to cowtailing to popular taste and have taken on a Franz Ferdinand-like sound. Puke. I'm very disappointed and glad i never bought this album prior to hearing it (i almost did. whew!) i liked them better snotty, full of attitude and rockin'. Road to Rouen makes me want to go to bed. 'Nuff said.

StephenDFeb 21, 20073Incredibly disappointing from a band who used to be so exciting. Bland. One or two moments where you can tell that there is a good songwriter there. They need to work harder if they are to achieve anything else in their career. Complete lack of effort from a moribund band. I really hope they prove me wrong...

They have never shown such control on a record before -- previously, their best albums were exciting because they went all over the place, and did it well -- and it's quite intoxicating to hear them ride one groove, finding different variations within it, for an entire album.

80A beginning to end enchanting and addictive album.

It seems they’ve not only gone and made that sensible and mature fifth album that every band past their sell-by date inflicts on their effervescently loyal fans, they’ve actually made a record that would be more appropriate in an old folks’ home than your local indie niterie.
