Rolling Papers 2 may not eclipse Wiz's most acclaimed work, but it is an admirable effort that shows growth in a creative evolution that gives hope that his best could still be ahead of him.

It may take more than one sitting to get through it, but anyone who dives in as fan will discover there are plenty of contact highs to be had.

Khalifa’s persona isn’t nearly ready to hoist up what’s essentially a double album, and, yet, this is largely the most focused and invested he’s sounded since Taylor Allderdice.

Instead of a magnum opus from an artist reaching the next level of his craft, or even a serviceable new album, Rolling Papers 2 feels like an awkward mixtape (or two) without much to say and too stoned to realize it's been rambling.

A bloated and expensive version of the rap he’s always made but without that signature effortlessness.

The songs often seem underdeveloped, two brief verses buried between more noteworthy hooks.

The music is a similar style, and the same themes are explored in the lyrics like overcoming obstacles, following your ambitions, celebrating life, lots of references to weed and liquor. Like its predecessor, it is characterized by complex hi-hat patterns, tuned kick drums with a long decay, atmospheric synths, and lyrical content that often focuses on drug use. Wiz’s flow is mellow for the most part and complements the instrumentals well. Production on the album is sufficient but inferior to his previous works. Real Rich, Fr Fr, Hot Now, Oceans, Something New and Reach For the Stars are the stand out tracks on the album. Expand

Songs like Something New (Ft. Ty Dolla Sign) and Hopeless Romantic (Ft. Swae Lee) are the best. Hot Now is the best song in the album.

Wiz Khalifa released an hour and a half long album containing 25 tracks. I'll say it again. Wiz Khalifa released an hour and a half albumWiz Khalifa released an hour and a half long album containing 25 tracks. I'll say it again. Wiz Khalifa released an hour and a half album containing 25 tracks. Wiz Khalifa has made some good projects, but he is not capable of releasing an album of such lengths. RP2 is Wiz's least ambitious project to date, losing his easy going style and effortless flow that made him so popular to begin with. There is little to no creativity, and Wiz appears to rely on his association with marijuana to keep him relevant in the music industry. Expand
