While Romancing isn't a perfect album, it's a lot closer than anyone's come recently on a debut.

Sneering like the New York Dolls transplanted to a nighthawk-populated diner after exchanging their shiny skin-tight trousers for leather jackets and Elvis LPs, this is a rock'n'roll record and no mistake....fantastique in anyone's language.

It's an unabashed throwback, but it's a throwback that's accomplished, likeable, and a lot more fun that it probably should be.

Romancing is full of brash, exciting music that's as fun as doing The Big Shop with headphones in.

There's a mighty gulf between those acts [Devin's musical influences] and scores of garage rockers long since forgotten, and it's one that can only be bridged with the very best songs. And those are what Devin doesn't have.
