The band's most compelling work since the glorious days of their fame. Sublime record. By the way, I find quiet unfair and unprofessional from metacritic.com not gathering enough reviews for this album as well as not have previous albums in the database.

This review contains spoilers.

If you liked the Cranberries in the past you won't be disappointed by this album. It seems that many professional reviewers are somewhat misguided by musicians who can neither sing or play any instrument in their reviews. This album pretty much continues the discography of the Cranberries as if they have never taken a break. One small difference: The album is somewhat more mature, but this is just fine because most fans have matured as well. Riordan voice is still one of the best there is. Not without reason she has been chosen to sing in duet with vocal wonders like Pavarotti in the past.
If you have never heard or seen the magic of the Cranberries, you should check out their spontaneous studio concert on NPR from the week before. Just amazing! They must be one of the few bands left who sound that great with minimum effort. No voice enhancers or pre-recorded singing here...
I can't wait to see them live soon. Hope they will add a Bay Area concert to their tour soon!
    Enjoy! :)

The Cranberries seem to be at a point where I'm beginning to wonder if they have anything else to offer us. Granted, there are four really great tracks on this album, but there are also other tracks that really disappoint. I'd generally agree with the consensus for this one - decent adult orientated pop music but lacking in risks. There are some nice songs on this but none of it really gets close to the bands peak. Having listened to and liked Dolores O'Riordan's 00's solo albums, "Roses" doesn't even match those albums so although it's an inoffensive addition to the back catalogue, I'd question the purposeI'd generally agree with the consensus for this one - decent adult orientated pop music but lacking in risks. I guess it came out of spending time together on the 2009/2010 reunion tour and the batch of unfinished material left behind from their original recording sessions for albums number 6 earlier in the 00's. It doesn't attempt to ape what they were but neither does it take any chances of progression. I guess it's an album that is comfortable in its own skin and probably came about naturally rather than forced and that is to be admired. Expand

After eleven years like a zombie which once sang about - The Cranberries are back with their sixth album. Dolores O'Riordan again regales us with the swirling melodies on the album carried by her characteristic timbre of voice . Even though bombast spawned the band's biggest hit, it sinks a lot of this record's second half. [No. 85, p.53]

The bulk of Roses is like a spring day in the first week of May - not exactly shocking, but sunny and warm.

Where Roses shines the brightest is via the textures that gild the album's edges.
