Though DeMarco certainly hasn’t ditched his slacker aesthetic, Salad Days is nonetheless a strikingly mature achievement for the 23-year-old.

On Salad Days it becomes a lot clearer. He's honed his skills to write wonderfully weird, often gentle pop songs.

For all its internal contradictions, Salad Days is no more or less than a great album in a tradition of no-big-deal great albums.

While those individual songs are great, they generate the urge to listen to the whole record in its entirety which, in the end, may not be as healthy and carefree as the title and arrangements would have us believe.

Goodbye Weekend sees DeMarco take issue with his critics, particularly the way his sometimes bizarre live shows have been reported. On this evidence, his talent should be celebrated. Salad Days, indeed.

While the tone keeps the wistful summer vibes of his earlier work intact, the Brooklyn-based Canadian also gets reflective on this dud-free second full-length.

Many of the songs feel like incomplete character sketches that simply gesture at yearning and crisis.... Salad Days is, nevertheless, an interesting piece of work.

At first, i was rather mixed about this album, it didn't quite feel as spectacular as i had been told. But after a 3rd proper listen I now understand the charm of Mac DeMarco. He crafts this very interesting experimental bluesy vibe throughout the record, with these very clean LoFi guitar rifts and his hazy vocals and lyrics he really manages, in my opinion, to capture the listeners attention by creating a very soft bluesy psychedelic vibe that very much stands out and stays present throughout this 23 minute LoFi production. Mac Demarco's Salad Days is very charming and definitely something worth picking up, or streaming. Expand

Perhaps my only complaint is that it doesn't have a track like "My Kind of Woman", my favorite track from his previous album.

That's not saying that this doesn't have remarkable songs. It does. Ones like "Let My Baby Stay", "Passing Out Pieces", and "Chamber of Reflection" are quite great, and i'll probably still be hearing them (and the whole album) for quite some time.

Salad days is a nice album, you can listen too if you just want to kick back and relax, or if you want to listen to music with pretty deep lyrics.

Even though i am not too 'Pop' this album is a lot more than that.
This is definitely one of the better albums i heard this year. And i discovered a great new artist!
