After all the anticipation, Satin Panthers demonstrates that Birchard remains a talent worth lauding, and hopefully this release is a mere taster for further top-rate HudMo jams soon to come.

The way Satin Panthers comes at you is definitely much more abbreviated and more focused; whether or not this is due only to the shortness of the EP is quickly dispelled with how well the five songs do ebb and flow.

Easily Hud-Mo's best work yet. [Aug 2011, p.67]

This is the sound of pigeonhole-free ambition slowly being realised, and it's sounding great.

Its huge, cocaine-pricked melodies remain present and correct throughout, but the tracks themselves are among his best so far.

An interesting and extremely well-crafted moment of critical self-reflection early-ish in a talented producer's career rather than a worrying about-turn.

Satin Panthers doesn't contain the most organized or most complete 15 minutes of music in the world, but it's an EP-it's just frenzied enough to provide a taste for an album to come. It might not be vital in itself, but there are enough ideas to show that within the mind of Hudson Mohawke, there is much more where this came from.

Overall, Satin Panthers is an excellent new entry in the Hudson Mohawke discography, a case in which an artist stayed the stylistic course and improved on an already-successful formula.
  9. With bursts of martial snare and brass held together by a minimalist, bass-powered spine, it's reminiscent of The Neptunes' spare genius and feels like off-the-peg future pop.

The EP's 17-minute run time feels too brief. Luckily, Satin Panthers offers more than enough to tide listeners over until a potential follow-up album.

The rest of the EP is strictly instrumental, and it's no less fun for it, whether Mohawke is serving up the type of gothic boom-bap that Young Jeezy might rap over on "Thunder Bay" or transitioning between tunes with explosions of (still mostly danceable) noise.

Small EP for Hudson Mohawke who continues a work full of originality and constantly more confused than surprising. As always, expressiveSmall EP for Hudson Mohawke who continues a work full of originality and constantly more confused than surprising. As always, expressive tempos and beats, incredible switches even if great tracks at first sight can easily become unbearable, as 'Thunder Bay' can be for example. Actually I didn't need Hudson Mohawke to add more weird sound to this spectacular mess (you know I'm currently talking about 'Cbat', aren't you?). Fortunately I can recognize that this short and slight effort is definitely spectacular, especially the songs 'Octan' and 'All Your Love', that were the two most astonishing tracks of the record.
