Easily the best thing I've heard this year aside from the recent release of Smile, which can't really count as a 2004 release, well. sort of... The Sisters rock, boogie, and most of all WRITE GREAT SONGS in a variety of styles...I can't stop playing the CD...it has become my car CD of choice...and one of those few albums that you can reommend whole heartedly to almost any of your friends...BUT IT! Omigosh, this is just brilliant!! It is a grower. The first couple of times I played it, I wondered what all the fuss was about a few Elton John sounding songs and some disco songs, but repeated playing revealed what a clever and beautiful cd this is. 'Comfortably numb' sounds like an electronic Bee Gees. 'Laura', 'Mary', and the lush, epic 'Return to Oz' sound like very brilliant, modern, Elton John stuff. Very clever lyrics, unexpected twists in musical direction, and a great sense of humour aptly describes this cd. Definitely a strong contender for album of the year, and best newcomer Grammy. Expand

They suck! SS sounds like a bunch of no talent people met, cut some tracks (quickly) and have become the sound du jour. Blech!

Refreshingly different than the other garbage out there today. Something with a little "thought" behind it. I love the disco throwbacks. The Comfortably Numb remake is so cool. One of my favs for 2004

I love this album and don't know how people can slate it as badly as they have. I agree with the majority, and I love the way that Ana Matronic and Jake swap vocals in songs like Filthy/Gorgeous.

This album's only redeeming track is "Mary". Otherwise, flat, uninteresting, lifeless. I really annoys me when tedious groups like Kings Of Leon, The Strokes and now Scissor Sisters get so much critical acclaim whilst other more innovative musicians get pushed aside. I like my music to have lasting interest, thank you.

Good humoristic poprock. A little bit like wtaching Clockwork Orange with CGI effects and produced by Wu. Nothing is really new, but the mix of influences does appeal from the first listen. Once you settle beyond the obvious sarcasm, there is not much left. Light and fun. Are they going to last longer than ziguezigueSputnik?

An absolute surprise for me. Listening to "Take Your Mama Out" on MTV i thought 'wow this is great'. I brout the album expecting it to be average with the 1 good first single. However, every song on this album is a stunner. Absolutely Fabulous!

I think this album is great from start to finish, it's something i've never heard before. Very different and the lyrics and poetic yet understandable (except i don't understand how "Take Your Mama" is a song about coming out totally). I do think it's one of the top cd's to come out in 2004.

It may be too late to add anything new or interesting to the discussion of this album. I don't know why I didn't write this a long time ago since I have the import disc. This isn't camp at all unless you think some of the lyrics are humorous in a camp way ("This will be the last time I ever do your hair!") It doesn't take too much originality to say that it sounds like Sir Elton got together with the Bee Gees and a pinch of Thomas Dolby and decided to "put on a show, just like we used to!" My favorite songs are probably the first three, even though none of them sound alike, and I don't think there's a weak tune on the album. This is very entertaining and much-better than I could have ever guessed. Expand

I never understood the whole posters on the wall obession of fanatical fans to one particular group. Now I know! The sissor sisters in my opinion is the greatest group of the 20th centery. I can listen to this album 2-3 times a day not grow tired of it. Infectious lyrics, up tempo beats and strong messages its all here folks.

An amazing record from a very promissing new band. While the songs switch in styles, the album becomes whole as an accurate portrayal of what is youth culture these days. Looking for a good time, confused with their place in the world, but all in all trying to figure it out and move forward. This is a record that everyone will be able to find something in to turn them on. If you heard a song or two and are interested, rest assured that you will not be dissapointed... and may be changing your new favorite song with every new day. Expand

Scissor Sisters have proven that they are more than a singles band, songs like "Tits on the Radio" and "Music is the Victim", as well as "Filthy/Gorgeous" are all fantastic and are poppy disco music with integrity, something very rare nowadays.

I love this CD. I bought it for "Laura", little suspecting the other gems I would find. It combines catchy choruses and effortlessly funky instrumentals, making it an album where all the song have stuck in my head at some time or another. From the very very fun song "Music Is The Victim" to the melancholy ballady type thing "Return to Oz" I just think it's brilliant.

Great CD! Not the best I've heard but it's far, far from the worst. They deserve much more success this side (North America)of the Atlantic than they're getting. It's a highly listenable CD from start to finish. With half a dozen shines of brilliance (tracks 1-4, and the last two), you can't go wrong with this purchase. Fantastic debut, I look forward to hearing more from them in the future. Expand

This album by the Scissor Sisters has to be one of the best albums to come out in a long time, even though it took several listenings. Its kind of like the old "Airplane" movies in that you have to watch them over and over to see something new each time. I really enjoyed the "disco" sounds brought back by this band.

Scissor Sisters are the fresh, unique proud, and fabulous. this album has made me even more of their greatest fan than i was. with obvious influences from Bee Gees and Elton John, they are the perfect band. dress cool, be who they want to be and have fun, and make people like me love them even more!!! At least they dont have boring, cheesy typical music like everyone else, such as busted, mcfly and girls aloud. this under appreciated band write their music, play it and record it, and their instrument players get acknowledged in the band! now my dream is to move to new york and be them! i love them!they have taught me to BE PROUD and be YOU!
