While Senior is sometimes reminiscent of Royksopp's stellar 2001 debut Melody A.M., it also feels like a poor man's attempt at an Air record.

The patient, thoughtful strokes here are sometimes interesting but rarely exciting.

Maybe it's just its drastic contrast with the chirpy and pop-friendly Junior that makes Senior seem so dreary, but even out of context, Royksopp's latest seems like a poor, thoroughly underdeveloped and, dare I say it, unfinished effort.
  4. Lack of pop structures be damned, the Norwegian duo have created a freewheeling, pleasant affair--even if we get the feeling we've heard it all before.
  5. While some of the tracks sound like rough sketches that were simply given a bit more shading, most of Senior captivates as a full-length experience.
  6. Senior makes a strong claim to be 2010's best electronic album. It's a record to lie back and drown in.
  7. It's maybe a little older and a little wiser than Junior but it just isn't anywhere near as much fun.
  8. It is pleasant, and largely forgettable.
  9. It can't be said that Senior fails to meet its modest wallpaper-ish aims, yet it hardly represents the best Royksopp has to offer.

There's still a feeling that the two albums might have worked better as one. [Nov 2010, p.114]
