When Black Veil Brides have made an album as fist pumpingly anthemic and as downright fun as Set The World On fire is, you'd be incredibly foolish to bet against them doing just that. [18 Jun 2011, p.50]

There's no question Biersack and the boys are making an active decision to go after the Rock On The Range crowd with lunkheaded hard rock and painfully bland ballads that are just dull enough to strike a chord with middle America. [Jul 2011, p.106]

All in all, Set The World On Fire sounds a bit like a band having an identity crisis – the sound no longer matches the carefully-created image but the music's decent none the less.

Second album is polished, though its anthemic pop-metalcore suffers from thinking its better than it is. [Aug. 2011, p. 119]

Guitarists Jake Pitts and Jinxx are the showstealers here, riffing in constant harmony, and incorporating the speedy guitar pyrotechnics of similar-minded bands like Dragonforce and Escape the Fate while throwing in showy Zack Wilde pinch harmonics, and Yngwie Malmsteen sweeps.

Always worth a listen with Ritual, Savior and Rebel Love Song being the best sounds. Looking forward towards Wretched & Divine. Collapse

It uses a musical style popularized by bands like Avenged Sevenfold and the lyrics scream Escape the Fate. The thing that keeps it from sinking into a realm of mediocrity filled with other too similar sounding bands is the lead singer Andy Biersack's voice. It's got a deep and melodic quality to it that's so good even when he's just talking he sounds fantastic.

Now I'm not saying that the rest of the band doesn't have talent. They do and the proof is here. The problem is that the generic sound that comes from them doesn't do a good job of showing that. It's not really their fault, it's the fault of the style they went with. It still sounds good, just way too familiar.

It's clear that the band is gunning for a particular audience with this album's style and sound, and that audience will eat this up. However there's a sense of deja vu here. It sounds like it borrows just a little too much from other bands a lot, meaning that often the only thing that stands out in this album is the singer's voice. Thankfully that's enough to make the album worth listening to, and fans of this style of music will love it to pieces. My total score for the album is a 7.5/10.

I can say this, because after I listened to one of their songs I made a wager with a friend that I could fart a better melody into a can than this band can write. The can gave my fart a rather nice natural reverb and delay effect, which boosted the low end of the sound, it also provided my fart with natural compression and made it very pleasurable to the ears.
