Sexy, transformative, and utterly impressive, Shapeshifting is a not simply a landmark album for Young Galaxy, but an unexpected joy to listen to again and again.

On Shapeshifting, their first album for Paper Bag Records, Young Galaxy have found a sound that lives up to McCandless's compelling voice (it seems Ramsay has been reduced to a secondary role, save for opener "The Angels Are Surely Weeping"), and it provides an overall sensation very unlike their first two attempts.

There are crafted, uplifting songs, but also haunting, ambient undercurrents hinting at everything from Art Of Noise to The xx to Fever Ray. [May 2011, p.103]

he overall result is in line with Studio's work or that of some of their Swedish contemporaries. [Feb 2011, p.69]

  1. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I truly enjoyed this album. There's just something about Catherine McCandless' vocals that make this album worth coming back to. It's a nice change of pace from the current music scene and I recommend everyone giving it a listen. Collapse
