Fulvimar has, all at once, figured out what works and built up the self-assurance to do just that.

The only real misstep is the too-funky-for-its-own-good “Snow Your Mind”; otherwise Fulvimar has created another record that will appeal to a wide range of music fans as the indie rockers will give it a thumbs up as will the stoners, psych-mongers and electronic freaks, too.

No matter the mood and subtle variation in sound, Fulvimar is in full control at all times, and while some may miss the garage punk style of the first album, Shine Your Light is an impressive change-up that will thrill those who stick around.

It would all be a bit of cosmic chicanery if it weren’t for Fulvimar’s cool-ass melodies, which might seem detached on first listen, but he’s got a rock-and-roll heart that makes the songs pulsate and bleed.

Whether the dreamy passages or the pop hooks reach deeper, you may find yourself moved to leave the Light on.

It's that intoxicating blend of late night, tripped-out electronics and melodic psych that is featured prominently on Shine Your Light, and it's a notable improvement.

Shine Your Light never gets oppressive, though during its final third, it does suggest what living in a record store might be like after the novelty wears out--kinda lonely, a little bit stuffy, and leaving you subject to others trying to tiptoe around.

It’d be a little too easy (and inaccurate) to say that Shine Your Light is a bad album; there’s certainly a lot of potential on display here. What it is, though, is frustrating.
