It's his best work to date. [No. 109, p.61]

It’s an album that wears its weirdness on its sleeve, but it’s the best kind of weird, and a joy to listen to.

A free-form lyrical approach leads Vangaalen into phantasmically beautiful byways, with both the music and the words floating up and away.

Chad VanGaalen's world is weird, but never just for weird's sake--his creations spring from deep inside the singular, twisted mind of their creator, and Shrink Dust is the closest we've come yet to getting inside his head.

Shrink Dust is ultimately VanGaalen doing what VanGaalen does best: beguilingly wonky folk-rock that's equally at ease tugging at your heartstrings or hitting you with ominous promises of revenge and heartfelt confessions of sin.

Shrink Dust has some truly inspired moments and fits right in with VanGaalen's building mythology.

The album’s lacking that one standout moment to make it a truly transformative experience. Still, the scope and ambition are to be applauded, and it’s a treat to take a voyage around his mind and beyond.

This is easily Chad Vangaalens best album. Adding new wonderful sounds to his infinite treasure chest of instruments. My favorite is the addition of lap-steel to give some of the tracks a country feel. The more you listen, the better it gets. Tops for 2014! Expand
