  • Summary: The newly reconfigured Philadelphia band, known mainly for their carnivalesque, acquired-taste sound and well-received live shows, return with a second LP.

  1. Man Man's music will irritate you, make you laugh, put you off and then bring you back for more.
  2. A subtle improvement on the band’s debut.
  3. This time out, Man Man's less sloppy but just as ramshackle, as if the snaps and crackles are the band's diversion from actually writing the record.

Sounds like the soundtrack for a post-apocalyptic street carnival. [#71, p.105]
  5. They’ve gotten good at re-creating in the studio the sound of a dingy rock venue in full throb.
  6. Each moment of each song is completely unpredictable, to the point where even after multiple listens some of these transitions still seem to come out of nowhere.
  7. More power to those who can do it, but from this perspective, it's nearly impossible to enjoy Man Man's Six Demon Bag while sober. [Apr 2006, p.222]

Man Man's second album is just as good as their first effort "The Man in a Blue Turban with a Face." They have risen to the ranks of old school Waits, Zappa, Zorn and the Residents. For those Mr. Bungle fans who have been waiting for a similar sound, look no further, Honus Honus is your savior. Engrish Bwudd, Black Mission Goggles, Push The Eagles Stomach, and Tunneling Through The Guy will have all "Experimental Rock" fans yearning for more. Two opposable thumbs up. Expand

This is an exciting album that will constantly surprise you, screaming, shouting, chanting, and mourning, some great vocals go on in this album. I love every single track from start to finish. Everytime Van Helsing Boombox comes on I have to whistle along, it's not even a choice anymore. Expand

one of the few bands to actually capture the energy and spontaneity of a live performance. It's probably not for the majority of folks content on listening to more radio-friendly artists... Expand

I can't get into this. They sound like a some of the stuff I adore, but it seems like they are just playing dress-up and being theatrical to a fault. Collapse
