You can really tell that Smash Mouth put a whole lot of effort into this album. Smash Mouth's genious is that their albums contain almost every type of music you can think of. Rock, Rap, Pop, Techno, Regae, ect. Even the volalist Harwell is diverse as he used to be a rapper. This time their album is very polished, mabee even too polished. It puts you in a good mood, with good lyrics. You can really tell that Smash Mouth put a whole lot of effort into this album. The only people I can see not liking this band are devoted rockers or popsters. Smash Mouth kind of lingers between both, giving you some rock songs and some pop songs. Very enjoyable for everyone. This album has the greatest song in existence: All-Star. Why is All-Star so good, you may be asking? Well, the answer is rather simple: Shrek is love, Shrek is life.

More eclectic than its predecessors, this self-titled CD finds the group spiking its feel-good melodies and crunchy guitar pop with interesting stylistic detours, and even smatterings of emotional depth.
  2. Goofy, head-bobbingly hummable.

Cool people probably think this sort of utilitarian grab bag dumbs down Beck-like eclecticism. But maybe it didn't take such a genius to come up with it in the first place. [Jan 2001, p.109]
