Chairlift still transcends the cool-kid ghetto for more elevated climes.

Something is a huge leap of cohesive maturity.

Something is like a grand, multi-branched, ageing tree of 80s synth-pop, encompassing every variance of style and genre and recreating each classic movement with honour and aplomb.

The Brooklyn duo returns with material that stays true to its trademark song structure but turns the musicality up considerably.

However, as difficult second albums go; and given the circumstances Something emerged from, difficult would be the operative word; Chairlift can be proud at what they've accomplished.

The overall affect is a travelogue falling between chillwave's lo-fi explorations and the sophisticated melancholy of Lykke Li's Wounded Rhymes: tightly economic pop tunes that draw on aural largesse as much as claustrophobic bricolage.

Chairlift craft an accessible, strange pop record. "Something" shows off Chairlift's eccentricities, but also a pure original, well written album that's very distinct opposed to any other record. "I Belong In Your Arms" is the highlight track for me.

All In All, Chairlift are a great pop band and "Something" has way more great tracks than just okay songs. B+

This is a well-made album full of catchy rhythms, upbeat pop songs. Caroline has a powerful voice in this album and her vocals help give each song a special mood. It is definitely an album worth listening to and it is one of the better albums of this year so far. Collapse

After listen it more than 6 times, it has become one of my favorites records of this months. They've created a peculiar piece of pop, that mixes commercial sounds with experimental arrangements, producing a nice result. All the songs has good moments that reinforce the general quality. Some people may not like it, but it's a matter of taste. Expand
