  • Summary: This is the debut album for the 17-year-old singer.
Score distribution:
  1. Positive: 4 out of 5
  2. Negative: 0 out of 5
  1. Like Austinite Ariel Abshire's "Exclamation Love" last year, much of Jarosz's appeal is youth, but that's grounded so deeply in talent that listening to her is a sweet promise for the future.
  2. The songs Jarosz wrote herself more pull their own weight. The eleven originals bubble with questions, toe-tapping impatience and a dreamy yearning, and they're strung through with twinge of poignancy that's completely refreshing.
  3. Seventeen years old and already turning the heads of critics, producers, and session musicians alike, Sarah Jarosz is not only a jaw-dropping talent but a multidimensional one, as well.
  4. Song Up In Her Head would be an impressive, captivating debut for an artist of any age, and the rare undercooked lyric or syrupy passage is easily overshadowed by Jarosz’s commanding presence and the overwhelming amount of supporting talent assembled in the studio.
  5. If the disc drags in places, Jarosz makes up for it with a pair of smart covers: Tom Waits' 'Come On Up to the House' and a take on the murder ballad 'Shankill Butchers' that betters the Decemberists' original.
