Sound Kapital, with its concise length and sound quality (omit none of these songs), should be the flagship for such a shift. Spencer Krug should take note.

Everything about this song -- and this entire album, for that matter -- suggests this heart's still got a lot left to burn.
  3. Under The Radar

Sound Kapital may be the best of the bunch-- a hard-hitting, spine-crushing work of post-industrial electro-punk that owes more to Suicide than Pavement. [Jul 2011, p.85]
  4. Aug 3, 2011
The change-up [writing exclusively on the keyboard] proved to be the best thing to happen for the duo, especially for Boeckner, a guitarist by trade whose embrace of the analog synth helped open a whole new world of expression for him as a songwriter.

If this is what we're going to be getting from Boeckner and company, perhaps Wolf Parade can stand to take a break for as many years as it needs to.

Boeckner and Perry succeed in their experiment, wringing the same cathartic material out of their synth-driven approach as they did in their previous album-long anthems. These two have plenty more talent to give to us; pray for their marriage to last a long, long time.
  7. Jun 21, 2011
The unending lights and sounds of Bangkok, Manila and Beijing inspired the duo's most electronic and propulsive album to date.

Sound Kapital exemplifies form mirroring content and vice versa. The electro-industrial synthesizers and drum machines convey the Handsome Furs' lyrical convictions better than the band's earlier, less bombastic combinations of synths and guitar.
  9. Alternative Press
    Jun 20, 2011
Practically seamless in execution, the worldly Sound Kapital reaches its peak with the anthemic "Repatriated," an upbeat track ready for dance floors from Brooklyn to Bangkok. [Jul 2011, p.110]
  10. Jun 29, 2011
This album doesn't stray far from the formula of their previous work, but it isn't disappointing. It goes down smoothly and will keep your toes tapping until the very last beat.
  11. Aug 24, 2011
Sound Kapital never quite settles into a comfortable pattern of pop.
  12. Jun 28, 2011
Sweaty and urgent, Sound Kapital is a snapshot of a dark world with hard-fought glimmers of euphoria.
  13. Jun 27, 2011
Sound Kapitol is a successful, if slightly creatively stifling refinement of a fruitful and unique musical partnership.
  14. Jun 21, 2011
Occasionally, Boeckner and Perry replicate the
lo-fi bustle of city life too well, achieving only a dense, dirty muddle
  15. While it is hard to pinpoint anything wrong with Sound Kapital on a micro-level (and a great many people are likely to be happy with the collection), the resulting picture of Sound Kapital as a whole is one of complacency, making the album easy enough to like, but difficult to love.

A side project gets slicked up for a close-up.
