What South demonstrates most effectively is that Nova, who had been awkwardly marketed as an edgy alt-rock chick, is now a performer perfectly poised for adulthood, and the mature listening audience that comes with it.
  2. Her lilting angelic voice and ethereal alternating waves of electronic and acoustic musical accompaniment make Nova's contemporary folk-pop tunes perfect for TV-styled teen angst and lessons in love.
  3. Nova and her producers do not rely on atmosphere alone. Instead they nail songs with unshakable melodies, choruses, bridges and harmonics; the technique, as on the great soul records, uses structural certainty to access emotional mysteries.

This is a gem of a CD. Crafy pop tunes with strong melodies abound, and Nova's voice is distinct and calming.
