Spacehopper is out there, yes, but not so out there that you can't still admire it from Earth. [Aug 2013, p.106]

Oasis bled into mediocrity faster than you can say 'Blur were better', but just occasionally on Spacehopper in Tripwires you can see the same ambition and pop nous that made their early tracks such a thrill to the mainstream.

Spacehopper proves Tripwires more effective than most at stepping out from under that umbrella without abandoning it. It is likely one of the best rock debuts you will hear in 2013.

Its spacy, half-dreaming vibes remain close enough to Earth to keep things accessible and not swamped in reverb but still pretty far out by merit of the band's own inventiveness.

The album begins to lag toward the end as the slower tracks drag their heels, but it’s still an impressive debut.

When Tripwires push so far out of their confines that the boundaries can’t be seen, the uncertainty and frustration of the lyrics starts to make more of a connection. Unfortunately, too often on Spacehopper they stick too close to the traditional patterns of orbit.
