everything Shelby does is super fine. if you listen to everything she has ever done, you can't say one is better then the other because Shelby is a brave performer , singer, songwriter. She doesn't sing herself into a corner to fulfill some obligation for marketing purposes..I think the main ingredient from the beginning of Shelby's career is her ability to be true to who she is and by doing that every thing she does touches you in some way. Fabulous collection of stripped-down, honest songs. The in-studio banter and "looseness" of the sessions only makes the songs seem more real. If you liked "I Am Shelby Lynne," you'll love "Suit Yourself."

Very good album. Would have given a higher rating if her eariy recordings, where she exposed the full range of her quite dynamic voice, did not exist. While her soft singing is exquisite, you can't help but wish she'd really cut loose every now and again. The closest she comes is on I Cry Every Day, and while it's exhilirating, it's also just a tease.

Mostly, Suit Yourself matches its predecessor's brilliance. [Jul 2005, p.100]
  2. Far less commercial, but also far richer. [Aug 2005, p.129]

The best thing she's done since winning the Grammy. [Jun 2005, p.110]
