They're one of the most consistent bands in metal, and this is a terrific example of them playing to their strengths.
  2. Apr 12, 2011
As perfect as Twilight is, though, Surtur Rising houses it handily.
  3. Apr 12, 2011
Surtur Rising is another momentous album for Amon Amarth, leaving no doubt that they are one of the best metal bands in the world.
  4. Apr 12, 2011
Every moment is charged with the perfect balance of power, melody, and muscle. [26 Mar 2011, p.51]

Full of old-school gallop and intelligible vox, the Digipak configuration bonuses a DVD plundering three unflagging hours of live footage from Germany, a run of nights covering peak LPs The Avenger (1999), The Crusher (2001), and Versus the World (2002).
  6. Apr 12, 2011
The heshers who crave this Viking death-march death-metal will have it, and those who aren't inspired by what they stream on the internet won't. Even with a lesser work, Amon Amarth have done their job.

I don't like metal but I love Amon Amarth. They rock like they mean it, no posing, just good clean fun.....................................................................................................................................! Expand

Hands down one of the best metal albums of 2011 so far. The bass seems to be buried in the mix but this still features some phenomenal guitar work and thunderous vocals and drumming. Highly recommended. Expand

this album is reall good but there are a couple of lack luster songs on this album but i would say about 7 of the songs are really good and i recommend this to anyone who like metal music this could possibly be the best death metal band of the last decade Expand

Surtur Rising is more of the same from Amon Amarth. But when the material is that good, who's going to complain? One of the most prolific death metal bands from Sweden, they unleash here once again a powerful piece of work that is atmospheric, melodic and thunderous. Not their best work (that would be 2001's Versus The World), but as many have pointed out, even a lesser album by Amon Amarth is still very good compared to other metal out there. Highly recommended.
