Chunks of Temporal will be inessential at best for casual fans, meant to appease only the diehards.

Despite its three-disc bulk, it exhumes too few buried-but-necessary takes and does little to illuminate what Isis did, why they did it, and what it all means.

Temporal as a whole is evenly mastered and gratifyingly titanic.
  4. Isis' Temporal is an honest and respectable attempt to not only chronicle their career perhaps intrigue a few more people in the process.

Aficionados will love picking out the differences between these early takes and the final album mixes.

Just as prolific in death as they were in life (perhaps even more so), with Temporal, Isis continue to haunt their career like fretful ghosts.

Though none of this will be particularly useful to anyone who isn't already familiar with the band (and if you're one of those people, run out and buy Oceanic and Panopticon right now), but for the initiated, Temporal makes for an essential and illuminating listen.

This is anything but a money-grab as it's as good as a parting gift that can be expected from these musicians.
