The Black Parade is MCR's whole raison d'etre rolled up into one mega-decibel calling card. [Nov 2006, p.179]
  2. For the first time in what seems like a long time, here is an album that is going to be deservedly huge.
  3. This is one to file alongside 'American Idiot', 'Doolittle' and 'Nevermind' on your greatest US rock albums shelf.
  4. As with many concept albums, the concept itself gets buried beneath the show-off virtuosity, the band's ringing need to not only impress but bedazzle the listener.

[It] sees them break out of the subculture in spectacular style. [Nov 2006, p.123]
  6. Tight as a unit, and apparently determined to create music that will, in one way or another, appeal to everyone, My Chemical Romance are in danger of forgetting that hooks, riffs, and yes, aggression, are also needed to stay on top of their game.
  7. It reeks of a band with ideas above their station.

I wish my classic rock listening fellow fifty somethings would leave their doors open to let these boys blow in. Expand

Since that early morning last fall I have certainly became a fan. I spent years in choirs and taking voice lessons so I can honestly say that Gerard Way's vocals are exceptional; his use of dissenent chords and the riffs in his voice (highlighted in "I Don't Love You) make the album a masterpiece. I have since listened to many other MCR songs and found that the band is pure genius within this genre of music. Expand

In a world grown weary of razor cuts and tight jeans, MCR fearlessly and unashamedly takes their art and pushes it to the next level. In a world grown weary of razor cuts and tight jeans, MCR fearlessly and unashamedly takes their art and pushes it to the next level. Finally, an "emo" band whose music justifies their excessive use of mascara. MCR's balls have dropped this time around, but that doesn't mean they have dropped the ball. They've raised the bar with this record so enjoy it while you can. It's only a matter of time before the other bands make it bland and boring. Expand
