She infuses this crepuscular collection of songs by the likes of the Rolling Stones, The Band, Neil Young and Gnarls Barkley with a compelling voodoo.
  2. Sep 28, 2012
With its restrained arrangements and spacious production, The Devil You Know allows Jones' enigmatic voice the room it needs to rise and deliver these songs, not from rock & roll history, but from her heart, marrow, and bones.
  3. Sep 28, 2012
A discreet, quietly rapturous record. [Nov 2012, p.72]
  4. Oct 23, 2012
With arrangements pared back to the bone, it's that strange, slurred voice where all the attention is focused, meaning there's no hiding place at all. [Nov 2012, p.99]
  5. Sep 28, 2012
Maybe reaching a little further back into the past would have worked a little better--maybe finding a producer who doesn't try quite so hard to sand off all the rough edges would help too.
  6. The results have a tendency to make you look at the ceiling.
