  1. The most satisfying and sheerly transfixing work of the twosome's career.
  2. Where previous releases have been occasionally bogged down in somnambulistic reverie, the majority of The Earth Is Blue feels light as air.
  3. The Earth Is Blue is a potent lesson in deceptively simple but exquisitely emotive songwriting, and one that continues to reveal further charms many a listen later.
  4. Kurihara's sweet swells turn into fuzzed-out jams alongside Naomi's fluid bass and wraithlike vocals and Damon's feathery cymbal play and murky poetry.
  5. Under The Radar
    50
Think strummed guitars over whale songs and barely audible vocals for about 40 minutes. [#9]
  6. Uncut
    80
They exhale the kind of swirling 'perfect pop' that was the default setting of late '80s Creation releases, leaning into the crosswinds of Fairport-era folk-rock. [May 2005, p.100]
  7. Fans of the newly resurgent psych-folk scene should definitely investigate the record and the band, too.
  8. Mojo
    70
A rarefied exemplar of genteel bliss. [May 2005, p.108]
  9. Alternative Press
    60
Taken individually, Damon & Naomi's songs possess distinct personalities.... However, when consumed as a whole, The Earth Is Blue metamorphoses into a thin musical mist. [Apr 2005, p.116]
  10. A dewy dream-pop affair that favors vaguely defined lyrical sketches of people, places and things over concrete foundations and specific arrangements.
  11. The Wire
    80
The Earth Is Blue has a glorious, spacey innocence that inspires affection. [#253, p.57]

This is for you if you enjoy sitting patiently quiet in your easy chair, allowing these beautiful melodies to wash over like the gentlest This is for you if you enjoy sitting patiently quiet in your easy chair, allowing these beautiful melodies to wash over like the gentlest clean ocean wave. Although not as fully realized as their earliest Sup Pop releases, More Sad Hits and The Wondrous World Of..., this lovable couple once again prove that staying true to your roots (w/ their earliest ground breaking work in Galaxy 500), can be a successful formula. As Eno once said, change nothing and continue with immaculate consistency. Also, Kurihara (Ghost's guitarist) again sits in and adds his understated magic to the song palette. Yes, the earth is blue and this recording proves it! Full Review »
