Solid third album. Slim Shady LP introduced the world to Eminem, a crude, white maniac with exceptional rhyming skills. Marshall Mathers LP gave the world Em's personal side while mixed with comic and satirical content. The Eminem Show is the retrospect of his career. After selling millions and millions of records, everyone wondered whether Eminem Show lived up to expectations. Yes it did. Taking more control over the production (Dre produced only 3 tracks), Eminem makes lyrical assaults on many including George Bush, rap critics, pop stars, Kim, and his mother. He goes from criticizing the common views against white rappers and to his success making keen observations that his color helped him gain fame. He criticizes the Bush administration in Square Dance for its decision to send soldiers to Iraq. He recalls his assault on a bouncer after he allegedly saw him kiss his wife. In Soldier, he recalls the violent rage in him before and during the attack but in Say Goodbye Hollywood, he regrets doing that saying that his wife would have cared less and that he could be imprisoned thus stalling his career and affecting his relationship with his daughter. In Sing For The Moment, he discusses how music has suddenly become an influence on kids because they can relate and how one should not take things so seriously. In Say What U Say, he and Dre declare war on Jermaine Dupri and Canibus. A couple of minor complaints are the repetition of content, namely rants against his mother and the whole Slim Shady antic on My Dads Gone Crazy. The songs Drips and Superman are unnecessary misogynistic rants against whores and should not have been included. Yet The Eminem Show succeeds because Eminem keeps it interesting. After all, he can't leave rap alone. The game needs him. Expand

Doesn't live up to the hype. Other than that, a mediocre release at best. '4' is a generous rating.

The reason he's so popular is he's a white person who can rap with the best of rappers - nothing else. He makes such good rap albums that they transcend the genre.

Metacritic doesn't know anything about Eminem. This isn't his third album, this is his 5th! Here's the list: Infinite The Slim Shady EP The Slim Shady LP The Marshall Mathers LP The Eminem Show That's 5, not 3. Anyway, this is a good album. Buy it.

Square Dance was worth purchasing the album, but sorry Slim I downloaded it off the internet. All in all the album is entertaining. His lyrical power is undaunted from all of the political drama that plagues his life, but unfortunatley for us, we have to hear about it, in very plain words. Marshall: Do everyone a favor and reach back in that bag of lyrics and pull out stories like Stan, Mushrooms, Criminal, and check your baggage at the door. If you continue to drill on us about your personal life, we're gonna fall asleep. We caught all that on the 11 oclock news, show us something new. Expand

Incredible! I actually agree with most of the critics. My opinion of this album is a hybrid of the New Musical Express's and E! Online. 'Nuff Said. Almost... He's sold about as much as Britney with only about 1/3 of the promo.

Same as it ever was, basically. If you liked it before you'll like it again. My only problem is the production is not quite up to par with the others. Dre produces a couple songs but Eminem does the rest and with only a handfull of exceptions, rappers don't know jack about making beats. They're passable though.

I said to my self when his first cd came out, "please this dumass is not gonna get any where" But i guess i was wrong, he has quite a following.. The only thing more annoying than his fuckin voice, is his fans... I say this becuz its a bunch of wanna be hard white boys..Almost all of his songs is coming off as trying to be funny or sayin some stupid shit..I mean listening to this is like listening to about 3o secounds of each track.. Nothing serious just stupid shit over and over, and on this site he has fans that either thinks he's cute or thinks he's hardcore in some way... And still is he like the biggest rapper of all time according to Marcos R.. What a fuckin joke, you have rappers like Nas, Fat joe, BIG, tupac, DMX, Big L, method man, Dre, Wu tang, need i say more.. Most of you mother fuckers who like slim is listenin to blink 182 and mudvayne and shit.. So shut the fuck up and know about rap before sayin "he's the best, best cd, best rapper, best look, ahh im gettin fuckin sick.. Thats like saying The Strokes is the best in rock.. I give slim 2 more years before he gets fuckin old like all the other white rappers... laters Expand

this is a solid and welcome return from the master of hip hop and is a very well crafted thrill ride. The production is in top form, slim's raps still posses that lyrical and rythmical quality other rappers lack and the hooks are merorable. The album delivers some truly epic tracks along the way, such as cleaning out my closet, sing for the moment and superman and hallies song are also highlights.Eminem has the ability to impose lyrics with soul and importance making the CD even more interesting.great stuff. He's said if he was black he would have sold have, i disagree, he would have sold less than that. The music media(especially rolling stone magazine)raised him up on an undeserved petastal. He is talented lyrically, but today in 2007, all his flows he uses he's used before and numbers don't equal talent.

I love eminem i should shoot myself because i did not get this album on the first day it came out, therefore giving my friends a reason to bag on me. this is probobaly the most personal abum out of all his albums. Although the least funny. The only problem is that it needed more tracks. Also Eminem is a great singer. He sings in the Halley song. Now people hardly have anything to attack him for due to the fact he uses the word faggot like three times in his album. A must get for any Eminem fan. Don't get the internet copy, show support. And all Sissy Moby fans that get offended by this album, go to the layer from hell you came from, stay back you evil beasts of Burden. Expand

His weakest album yet. Not as shocking as his 2nd album or as funny as his 1st. His rhymes this time around are just not as interesting. What saves him though is his lyrical flow and there are a few great songs on the album Cleanin Out My Closet, and Sing For The Moment after that most of the songs are just medicore.

Einstein and all those other genius' are pretty talented, but could they ever rap like Eminem.Of corse not.Everyone has a talent and Eminem's is writing and producing massive songs. What makes him a genius is the fact that he's so good at it.According to my I.Q. test, I am inside the top 1% in the country for intelligence, yet I could never produce the music that Eminem can.How he does it I'll never know! while eminem is starting to repeat some of his themes to the point of beating them to the ground the best songs are when he attacks the government and explains that after 9/11 we need him now more than ever the only bad song is the aerosmith sampling ballad the album could have used more of eminems sense of humor sense the album runs a bit long

This is simply an amazing album. It is a great improvement over the last one, all the tracks are amazing apart from three D12 ones put in there which are a great shame and is why this album doesn't get a ten. In this album Eminem seems to have gone for a more serious aproach than his last one. It is and improvement of a great formula that has made his previous albums so successful.

I love The Eminem Show. It is one of the best albums made. Eminem is a lyrical genios,if you doubt that you should sit the fuck down, and shut the fuck up.

Possibly his best work. Any one who says differnt is crap. He is the master of rap and music right now. Is the best selling rapper of all time and is just all around great rapper.

First things first, Eminem is *not* a genius. He may be a fantastic rapper and a great rap producer, but he's no general genius. Einstein, Mozart, Miles Davis, Chopin, Michelangelo, John Contrane = genius, Eminem = good rapper. People, there is a difference. The album is ok. The main problem is that the same themes are played out over and over and OVER AND OVER again. We get it Marshall, you hate your mom, your ex-wife, you feel like a victim all the time and you love your baby girl. Move on! "Cleaning Out My Closet" has got to be the most annoying "poor me poor me" song *ever*. I know he's got the talent to put together origional beats and work some lyrical gymnastics...now if only there were substance to go with the style. Expand

Eminem has matured. But he is still as funny and as clever as always. A great CD.

Metascore

Generally favorable reviews - based on 20 Critics

Critic score distribution:
  1. Positive: 15 out of 20
  2. Negative: 1 out of 20
  1. Eminem just may have made the best rap-rock album in history
  2. With each successive album Eminem finds new depth and excitement within the same themes and structures he used way back on The Slim Shady LP, so even if new songs contain earmarks of Eminem classics, they still feel reinvigorated.

Behind the hype and the swagger, he's still baring enough of his soul for The Eminem Show to be compelling theatre. [Aug 2002, p.118]
