Comes off best in live environment, but these witty, literate, whiskey soaked, gritty brothers have, in spades, the real deal magic.

This is flat out the best album released thus far this year. only boo! by was not was comes close. forget all the references to dylan and the band. they are true. these are minstrels first and musicians second. they make phenomenal music and are a refreshing treat to the ears. critics ....quit being so snarky!!

  1. One can't help but wish the 15-track set list included more numbers like 'Frankie's Gun,' which features some of Ian's wittiest lyrics and the brothers' spot-on imitation of the Band, but it's hard to find fault in this collection of earthy ballads and barroom jams.
  2. Who knows whether or not the Felice Brothers--brothers Ian, Simone, and James, plus a friend called Christmas--are actually, consciously trying to come as close as possible to replicating Dylan an/or the Band on their self-titled latest. Regardless, the point is, whether they intended to or not, they've come eerily, awkwardly, creepily close to capturing that familiar mix of mood, mystery, atmosphere, and aesthetic.
  3. Overall, this is a solid disc which shows potential, but the Felice Brothers aren’t quite there yet.
